Liver Awareness Month 2025

Liver Awareness Month is celebrated in October each year to raise awareness of liver health, the importance of the liver, and the causes and impact of liver diseases, including fatty liver disease and liver cancer.

Show your liver some love this October

Here at LiverWELL, we know how amazing the liver is, and you should too!

Our amazing livers perform 500 vital functions to support our health. They filter toxins, help us digest our food, as well as regulate our metabolism. When our livers aren’t functioning properly due to infections like viral hepatitis or conditions like steatotic liver disease (also known as fatty liver disease), it not only affects our liver but other vital organs and our overall health.

Liver Awareness Month is a great time to learn more and take steps toward better liver health. Start by exploring our resources on:

  • Treating and managing hepatitis B or C
  • Understanding Steatotic Liver Disease (also known as fatty liver disease) and reducing your risk of liver cancer
  • Liver health for young people
  • How to eat well for your liver
  • Dealing with stigma

And more!

Liver Cancer Awareness

October is also Liver Cancer Awareness Month; a time to recognise the growing impact of liver cancer in Victoria and across Australia.

Liver cancer is now one of the fastest-growing causes of cancer death in Australia, but around 65% of liver cancer deaths are potentially preventable.

Conditions like untreated hepatitis B and C and Steatotic Liver Disease (also known as fatty liver disease) are major contributors, but this can change with awareness, testing, and treatment.

If you feel you might be at risk of viral hepatitis or liver disease, check in with your GP and get tested so you can receive adequate treatment.

The Hepatitis B & C Info Hubs

We’re excited to launch our new Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C Information Hubs on the LiverWELL website.

Developed with expert health writer Nerissa Bentley (The Melbourne Health Writer), these hubs bring together clear, accessible, and reliable information on every aspect of hepatitis B and hepatitis C.

From prevention and testing options through to treatment, visas and migration, and much more, the hubs are a vital resource for both patients and healthcare providers. Whether you’re seeking trustworthy guidance for your own health or supporting others, these hubs make it easier to find the information you need all in one place.

SLD Info Hub

Last year we launched our clinically reviewed, easy-to-understand information hub on SLD, also known as Fatty Liver Disease. Currently affecting 1 in 3 Australians, it significantly raises the risk of liver cancer—the fastest-growing cause of cancer deaths in the country.

Our resources provide clear guidance on how to understand, prevent, and manage SLD, with the chance to reverse the early stages. Your liver health is vital, and with the right steps, you can take control.
