Make Vic Hep Free

An initiative of the Victorian Viral Hepatitis Roundtable.

About

The Victorian Viral Hepatitis Roundtable brings together organisations working across the viral hepatitis sector in Victoria, Australia. Our members, coming from community, research, and health settings, are committed to achieving elimination of viral hepatitis by 2030.

Since 2023, we have been working together to identify what is already happening and can be amplified, to find new opportunities for collaboration and to highlight what else needs to happen to help Victoria reach elimination.

Eliminating viral hepatitis by 2030

Victoria has achieved a lot around viral hepatitis elimination since 2016. Having come this far, we must press on to reach elimination – if not, we will regress and lose the progress we have made. If that happens, the benefits of the state’s investment won’t be fully realised, and we won’t have spent wisely. This will lead to an increase in preventable loss of life, in hospital presentations and admissions, and in liver cancer – which will put further strain on the health system, not to mention the human cost.

We know how to eliminate viral hepatitis — because we know what works. It’s about meeting people where they are, in their communities, with care that’s trusted and accessible. Right now, mainstream health services just don’t feel accessible to many living with viral hep. But in pockets of Victoria, great things are happening.

What we need now is to build on these successes.

Let’s make them sustainable, and available wherever people need them. What we need now is to build on these successes. Let’s make them sustainable, and available wherever people need them. That’s how we make sure every Victorian living with viral hepatitis can be well and stay well — no matter who they are or where they live. Eliminating viral hepatitis is about health equity and making sure that everyone can access the care they need when and where they need it.
