LiverWELL presents at the 15th Australasian Viral Hepatitis Conference

August 19, 2025

LiverWELL was proud to showcase its work at this year’s ASHM Conference, with staff presenting a range of initiatives that highlight the importance of lived experience, community engagement and collaboration in the hepatitis sector.

A special highlight for our team was seeing our own Health Promotions Officer Tepy Hoeung honoured with the Levinia Crooks Emerging Leader Award, for her commitment to providing culturally safe, peer-led and inclusive care for people living with viral hepatitis. Tepy also presented Navigating Migration and Hepatitis B, focusing on the Hepatitis B Visa and Migration FAQ resource, for international community members who need to access information on visa and migration when they may have hepatitis B. Her presentation highlighted the importance of accessible, culturally relevant information for people navigating both migration processes and hepatitis B care.

Health Promotion Officer Alain Palines presented two posters. The first, Beyond Tokenism, explored the role of the Lived Experience Advisory Committee in shaping programs through co-design and trauma-informed practice. This work demonstrated how embedding lived experience helps reduce stigma and improve access to support. The second, Creativity in Action, featured the StreetShot youth program, highlighting co-designed workshops, art exhibitions and activity packs that sparked important conversations around hepatitis, stigma and youth health.

Health Promotion Officer Maddie Bolton shared Amplifying Community Voices, a presentation featuring four short videos produced in collaboration with passionate community leaders. The videos were created in Mandarin, Tagalog and Khmer, with a fourth: Be The Change, which focused on stigma and discrimination led by LiverWELL’s Lived Experience speakers. Maddie described the experience as incredibly rewarding and was proud to represent the work of the health promotion team. A highlight of the session was being able to share one of the videos with the entire auditorium.

Government Engagement Coordinator Ariane Boulanger delivered Sector-Wide Collaboration: Insights from the Viral Hepatitis Roundtable, which emphasised the value of cross-sector partnerships in advancing coordinated responses to viral hepatitis.

LiverWELL warmly thanks all contributors, partners and the ASHM Conference for their support in making this important event possible.
