LiverWELL recently delivered a hepatitis B information session tailored for the Cantonese-speaking community in Footscray, attracting 14 participants who actively engaged in both the presentation and follow-up discussions. Supported by a Cantonese-speaking interpreter, attendees had the opportunity to ask questions, share personal experiences, and explore key topics such as hepatitis B transmission, vaccination, testing, ongoing care, and its connection to liver cancer.
The session focused on the importance of culturally safe, community-led education in helping people gain a deeper understanding of their health, and encourgaed them to take control of their liver health. Many participants reported feeling empowered to visit their GP, discuss hepatitis B with family members.
Delivered in partnership with the Chinese Cancer and Chronic Illness Society of Victoria, and supported through HepLink funding from Hepatitis Australia, the session reflected LiverWELL’s ongoing commitment to raising awareness, reducing stigma, and supporting hepatitis prevention, testing, and care across diverse communities.
We acknowledge the traditional owners of the lands where we work - the lands of the Woi-Wurrung Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nations. We express our gratitude to them for their continued care and curation of these lands and waters. We pay our respects to Elders past and present.
LiverWELL observes and honours the Kulin Nation's intrinsic connection to land, sky and water, and the creator Bunjil. LiverWELL is committed to being led and informed by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders on bridging health outcomes for communities and improving liver health.
