Cambodian Community Hackathon Builds Awareness on Hepatitis B

October 26, 2025

LiverWELL recently partnered with the SMRC Cambodian Group to run a Community Hackathon focused on liver health, with a special emphasis on hepatitis B. The session created a safe and supportive space where community members could learn, share experiences and build confidence together.

Working both individually and in pairs, participants prepared short presentations with help from facilitators. They spoke about what they had learned about hepatitis B, including the importance of regular testing, how treatment can help manage the condition, the protection offered by vaccination, and the ongoing impact of stigma.

They also discussed the actions they could take, both personally and as a community. These included encouraging family members to get tested and vaccinated, sharing accurate information, and offering support to people living with hepatitis B.

Many participants shared their own stories, some highlighting the challenges of accessing care and the importance of community understanding and connection. The presentations were inspiring and showed the depth of knowledge, leadership and commitment within the Cambodian community.

Participants left the session with greater confidence and a stronger sense of how they can make a difference by spreading awareness and helping to reduce stigma around hepatitis B.

Feedback from the group was very positive. Several people said this was the first time they had taken part in an activity like this, and that it was a valuable opportunity to learn and connect together.
