Connecting with Hindi and Punjabi Speaking Communities

October 26, 2025

LiverWELL recently held a community education session tailored for Hindi and Punjabi-speaking communities, aimed at increasing awareness and understanding of hepatitis B. The session focused on prevention, testing, treatment, and the support services available in Victoria.

Recognising the importance of culturally and linguistically appropriate health information, the session was supported by a Health Promotion Officer and an interpreter. This allowed participants to engage comfortably in their preferred language, creating a safe space for open discussion and encouraging everyone to ask questions freely.

The session included interactive activities, myth-busting discussions, and real-life examples that made the information practical and easy to relate to. Participants also received multilingual resources to share with their families and networks, helping to spread accurate information more widely across their communities.

Feedback from attendees was very positive. Many people said that having the session delivered in their own language helped reduce stigma and gave them greater confidence to seek medical advice.

These education sessions play a vital role in bridging health equity gaps and empowering communities with the knowledge they need to take charge of their liver health.
