Ever thought about growing a moustache? November is the perfect month to get started! Not only will sporting your new stache be stylish, but it could also support men’s health. Movember is a charity which is (literally) changing the face of men’s health to create a healthier world for us all.
Movember fundraisers are a global community of fired-up Mo Bros and Mo Sisters – aka rock stars making a difference in mental health and suicide prevention, prostate cancer and testicular cancer. This Movember LiverWELL is illuminating the importance of liver health issues faced by men.
It is observed that men are more likely to experience liver diseases such as alcoholic liver disease due to higher rates of alcohol use disorder, which if left untreated can progress to fibrosis, a buildup of scar tissue. Fibrosis can then lead to serious long-term liver issues, such as cirrhosis, in which severe scarring results in poor liver function and sometimes cancer. Because of this, we must support the men in our lives to seek medical guidance and professional help if drinking in excess has become a habit. See your doctor if you’re concerned about your liver health.
You can sign up to grow a moustache for men’s health on their website or If growing a moustache isn’t your thing you can also ‘host a mo-ment’ or ‘get mo-ving’ to raise awareness in your own way.
We acknowledge the traditional owners of the lands where we work - the lands of the Woi-Wurrung Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nations. We express our gratitude to them for their continued care and curation of these lands and waters. We pay our respects to Elders past and present.
LiverWELL observes and honours the Kulin Nation's intrinsic connection to land, sky and water, and the creator Bunjil. LiverWELL is committed to being led and informed by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders on bridging health outcomes for communities and improving liver health.
