LiverWELL CEO Melanie Carew and Board President Siân Slade were proud to attend yesterday’s launch of Australia’s new national hepatitis strategies at Parliament House, marking an important step forward in strengthening the nation’s approach to hepatitis prevention, care, and elimination.
We welcomed Assistant Minister White’s announcement that the Australian Government will fund Hepatitis Australia to work with the sector to develop implementation plans for these strategies. Effective implementation of these strategies is the key to eliminating hepatitis in Australia by 2030.
We also thank Vicki and Van for sharing their lived experience, highlighting why keeping communities at the centre of this work is essential.
Thank you to Hepatitis Australia, amazing parliamentary hosts Tim Wilson and Renee Coffey MP and all partner organisations for their ongoing commitment to improving outcomes for people affected by viral hepatitis.
We acknowledge the traditional owners of the lands where we work - the lands of the Woi-Wurrung Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nations. We express our gratitude to them for their continued care and curation of these lands and waters. We pay our respects to Elders past and present.
LiverWELL observes and honours the Kulin Nation's intrinsic connection to land, sky and water, and the creator Bunjil. LiverWELL is committed to being led and informed by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders on bridging health outcomes for communities and improving liver health.
