Make Vic Hep Free parliamentary event

August 6, 2025

On 29 July 2025, the Victorian viral hepatitis sector gathered at Parliament House to mark World Hepatitis Day – and called for action to eliminate hepatitis by 2030.

Organised by the Victorian Viral Hepatitis Roundtable steering committee, the Make Vic Hep Free parliamentary event welcomed Victorian MP’s to hear directly from people with lived experience of hepatitis B and C, alongside the passionate health workers and advocates leading the response on the ground. It was a wonderful turnout and the room was abuzz with conversation about how together we can work to Make Vic Hep Free.

We know what works. The cure for hepatitis C exists. Treatment for hepatitis B works. But unless we invest in care that is local, safe and stigma-free, too many people will continue to miss out.

To mark World Hepatitis Day, Minister for Health Mary-Anne Thomas, Shadow Minister Georgie Crozier, and Victorian MPs from across the political spectrum stood up and pledged to help change that.  Click here to see the growing list of MP signatures in support of viral hepatitis elimination.

Eliminating viral hepatitis is within our reach — but only if we meet people where they are, with care that’s trusted, accessible and grounded in community.

Together we can make sure every Victorian living with viral hepatitis can be well – and stay well – no matter who they are or where they live.
