Volunteer story by Vaidehi

August 30, 2024

Please share a brief overview on yourself:

Hello, my name is Vaidehi and I’m a Registered Nurse. In my personal time I enjoy being creative, and also have a side business of press on nails. I have volunteered previously in high school but volunteering with LiverWELL has been a great new experience. Volunteering with LiverWELL has helped me explore more of my creative side and forced me to get out of my comfort zone.

What inspired you to become a LiverWELL volunteer?

I have always wanted to volunteer and I finally saw an exciting opportunity with LiverWELL so I decided to grab it. LiverWELL has allowed me to be more creative and meet new people.

Do you have a particular interest in liver health?

As a nurse, I have worked in a Gastroenterology ward and am currently working in the ICU, I have seen many people struggling with liver health. With my cardiac background, learning about liver health and how it interconnects with other organs has been a great learning opportunity. I have done a few CPD courses with LiverWELL previously and they have really improved my understanding of liver health.

Please describe one of your favourite LiverWELL experiences or moments.

During my face-painting experience at the Snow festival, it was amazing to meet so many kids and hear stories from them. I had a kid who wanted a shark on his face and he was very happy with the end result – every time he talked, it looked like the shark was opening its mouth!

What tips do you have for new volunteers?

Put yourself out there and get out of your comfort zone. I had never done face painting before this but just letting myself get out of my comfort zone allowed me to learn new things and realise that I can do face painting.

What’s next for you?

I would like to continue to volunteer and explore my creative side.
