Please share a brief overview of yourself
I’m currently pursuing my Master of Public Health at the University of Melbourne with a focus on health program design and implementation, as well as Health promotion.
What inspired you to become a LiverWELL volunteer?
My placement at LiverWELL, as part of my final year of studies, inspired me to become a volunteer. I was impressed by LiverWELL’s comprehensive approach to health promotion and education, particularly its commitment to incorporating the voices of those with lived experience.
Do you have a particular interest in liver health?
Yes, I’ve always been interested in chronic and infectious diseases. However, my placement at LiverWELL shed light on the stigma surrounding certain liver diseases, highlighting their significant impact on liver health.
Please describe one of your favourite LiverWELL experiences or moments.
One of my most memorable experiences at LiverWELL was during a filming session for a health promotion video aimed at raising awareness about the impact of stigma and discrimination on people with lived experiences of viral hepatitis. Meeting people in person and hearing their stories firsthand was invaluable. Additionally, the supportive team environment made moments like the Salad party especially enjoyable!
What tips do you have for new volunteers?
For new volunteers, I recommend staying flexible and open to new experiences. You never know what valuable lessons and enjoyable moments may come your way.
What’s next for you?
Upon completing my degree this year, I hope to pursue a career in public health, continuing to follow my passion for promoting health and well-being in communities.
