A message from our Board President, Siân Slade
Dear LiverWELL community,
I am delighted to announce the appointment of Melanie Carew as our new Chief Executive Officer, commencing on 3 December 2025.
Melanie brings a wealth of senior executive leadership experience across health and research for-purpose organisations, including her previous roles as CEO of the Cooperative Research Centre for Mental Health and Head of Strategy and Public Affairs at the Florey Institute of Neuroscience and Mental Health. She is deeply committed to community engagement and health equity, and her work has spanned policy, strategy, scientific communication, and mental wellbeing initiatives.
Her appointment comes at a pivotal time for LiverWELL, as we continue our evolution from a state-based organisation focused on viral hepatitis to a national advocate for comprehensive liver health. Melanie’s vision and expertise will help guide LiverWELL into its next chapter of growth, innovation, and impact.
In Melanie’s own words:
“It’s a privilege to be appointed as CEO of LiverWELL and contribute to its important mission. I’m excited to build on the foundational excellence in viral hepatitis elimination, leadership in Metabolic Dysfunction Associated Liver Disease (MASLD) and health equity activities. I’m looking forward to getting started and working with the team, our partners, lived experience advocates and supporters to ensure that our collective impact continues to lead to improved liver health for all.”
We are also pleased to share that Paul Bowers will continue in his role as Interim CEO until Melanie commences. The Board extends its sincere thanks to Paul for his wisdom, practical leadership, and generous support during this period of transition.
Please join me in warmly welcoming Melanie to LiverWELL.
Warm regards,
Siân Slade
