World Hepatitis Day 2022

Event date
July 28, 2022

‘Hep Can’t Wait!’  is the theme for World Hepatitis Day 2022 and aims to support and highlight the global fight to eliminate viral hepatitis. The campaign also amplifies the voices of people affected by viral hepatitis and calls for immediate action to end stigma and discrimination.

The theme aims to inspire urgency in the general public, as well as government bodies to take steps that will help us take control of viral hepatitis, including getting tested, and getting treated.

The date of 28 July was chosen for World Hepatitis Day in honour of the birthday of Nobel Laureate Professor Baruch Samuel Blumberg, discoverer of the hepatitis B virus and developer of the first hepatitis B vaccine based on research of the Australian antigen.

This World Hepatitis Day LiverWELL is supporting ten sector partners in hosting their own events which aim to raise awareness about viral hepatitis through our World Hepatitis Day Incentives.

We acknowledge the traditional owners of the lands where we work - the lands of the Woi-Wurrung Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nations. We express our gratitude to them for their continued care and curation of these lands and waters. We pay our respects to Elders past and present.

LiverWELL observes and honours the Kulin Nation's intrinsic connection to land, sky and water, and the creator Bunjil. LiverWELL is committed to being led and informed by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders on bridging health outcomes for communities and improving liver health.
