I am a HEP Hero because I believe that increasing people’s consciousness on the negative consequences of late diagnosis of hepatitis, particularly Hepatitis B, and available services is a way to encourage people to have a hepatitis B blood test and get vaccinated or treatment on time.

My experience in development work in Cambodia has made who I am today. This development work inspired me to be willing to give back to the society as the whole, especially the Cambodian community in Melbourne when I am here for my study.

I am a HEP Hero because I am highly motivated, energetic and vocal in trying to break down the barriers and stigma that face individuals with hepatitis C. In my work I often need to step up to the plate and be a voice for the voiceless.

I would like to participate in being a HEP Hero because the more people become involved, the better. Being a HEP Hero is valuable if it helps the community at large understand hepatitis.

I worked at the Victorian Infectious Diseases Reference Laboratory, initially situated at Fairfield Hospital, as a research and diagnostic scientist in the Molecular Microbiology Unit in the field of hepatitis C .

Over the years Hepatitis Victoria has become a big part of my life. I have contacted the organisation on so many occasions looking for accurate and up-to-date information and have never been disappointed

I support raising awareness of hepatitis and its consequent illnesses and believe that it is a preventable and manageable condition if patients and the community are engaged in doing so.

I made the choice to involve myself in volunteering at Hepatitis Victoria as this is a sector I am deeply passionate about and wanted to continuously train and upskill myself. I enjoy educating others in the community about liver disease – including hepatitis.

As the Mayor of Moreland I feel becoming a HEP Hero is a good thing to do as an elected representative and role model for the city. I am 46, married with three sons and living in Coburg. I love to spend time in the garden.

During my university time, I met with many people who were volunteers at various organisations which also inspired me to become a volunteer and help people.
