Recognising the pivotal role of peers in addressing systemic stigma and discrimination, LiverWELL has recently welcomed a peer worker to our team! We are actively expanding this role to launch an innovative peer support project tailored for individuals affected by viral hepatitis.
Nicoletta Burrows, our new project worker, brings extensive experience in community development and advocacy from her involvement with peer-led organisations supporting sex workers and drug users in Australia and internationally. In addition to providing direct peer support to help community members access viral hepatitis services (including testing, care, and treatment), our initiative aims to empower individuals affected by viral hepatitis to articulate their experiences and identify their healthcare needs.
Currently, the peer project is forging relationships with neighbouring community organisations and health initiatives to explore potential opportunities for co-location, collaborative outreach, and innovative community engagement strategies.
For more information about this project or to refer service users to our peer support initiative, please contact Nicoletta directly at (mobile) 0493 538 881 or via email at nicoletta@liverwell.org.au.
We look forward to collaborating with you to strengthen our community’s support network and enhance healthcare access for those impacted by viral hepatitis.
We acknowledge the traditional owners of the lands where we work - the lands of the Woi-Wurrung Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nations. We express our gratitude to them for their continued care and curation of these lands and waters. We pay our respects to Elders past and present.
LiverWELL observes and honours the Kulin Nation's intrinsic connection to land, sky and water, and the creator Bunjil. LiverWELL is committed to being led and informed by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders on bridging health outcomes for communities and improving liver health.
