On 24 October 2023, LiverWELL and the Gippsland Region Public Health Unit were proud to host a very successful Gippsland Forum on Viral Hepatitis.
We witnessed an amazing turnout and enthusiasm from healthcare workers across the region, who came together to brainstorm new opportunities to improve access, share insights, and engage priority populations.
Feedback has been very positive from participants, who enjoyed sharing connections and knowledge, improving collaboration and sparking new ideas for system improvements for testing, treating and caring for patients with viral hepatitis.
The session was kicked off by David Fry, who shared his inspiring lived experience story, succeeded by a wide variety of speaker presentations delving into topics such as Viral Hepatitis Data and Epidemiology across Gippsland, Harm Reduction, Multicultural Health Services, Liver Health Scans, Hepatitis C Nursing Program, Congenital Viral Hepatitis, Working with Aboriginal Communities, and many more! The session ended with a panel discussion with liver health and hepatitis-oriented healthcare professionals within the region, followed by a workshop activity surrounding new strategies for improving viral hepatitis care pathways.
We would like to extend our gratitude to the team at Gippsland Region Public Health Unit and all who were in attendance.
We plan to host more networking forums in the future. Let us know if you’re interested in us hosting a forum in your region.
We acknowledge the traditional owners of the lands where we work - the lands of the Woi-Wurrung Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nations. We express our gratitude to them for their continued care and curation of these lands and waters. We pay our respects to Elders past and present.
LiverWELL observes and honours the Kulin Nation's intrinsic connection to land, sky and water, and the creator Bunjil. LiverWELL is committed to being led and informed by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders on bridging health outcomes for communities and improving liver health.
