Komal Khan

Volunteer of the Month, September 2020

About me

Hi, I am Komal. I professionally worked as a dentist in Pakistan and Saudi Arabia before discovering my passion for public health, which eventually led me to Australia.

I graduated with a Master of Public Health from Monash University in 2019 and hope to use my degree to improve the health of my communities.

What inspired me to become a Hepatitis Victoria volunteer?
After finishing my Master of Public Health, I wanted to work with viral and infectious diseases owing to my fascination with them.

I am also particularly keen about Viral Hepatitis since my uncle, whom I was very close to, was taken away by the disease.

Hepatitis Victoria provided the perfect platform for me to pursue my interests and contribute to the fight against hepatitis.

One of your favorite Hepatitis Victoria sessions or moments.

Despite shifting entirely to a virtual environment due to the current pandemic, meeting and interacting with the staff is always a great experience.

I also get the opportunity to do work I love while absorbing new knowledge and feeling a sense of accomplishment with my contribution to society.

What tips do I have for new volunteers?

You are a single person who can make a huge difference to any cause—pandemic or no pandemic. Enjoy the ride while you’re on it.
