Just get involved! Hepatitis Victoria a worthy organisation and you will find the staff and volunteers are so warm and passionate.

As the Greater Dandenong Mayor and a hepatitis C sufferer, I’m hoping by sharing my story I can reach out to the wider community to help them understand the seriousness of this disease and the treatment options available.

I trained as an infectious diseases physician because of the enormous ability you have to support individuals and communities to live healthier lives.

Along the way I’ve been lucky enough to work alongside some truly phenomenal health professionals who dedicate themselves to hepatitis care, compassion and the quest for cures.

I was interested in learning more about the organization and the activities developed to advocate for people with hepatitis. I also wanted to learn more about hepatitis and its treatments.

I’m a nurse working at St Vincent’s in Melbourne. I started here in 2011 as an “interferon nurse” as we were known back then! I’m now working with a great team running the hepatitis assessment and treatment program in Victorian prisons.

Growing up in the Philippines, hepatitis was always something your parents warned you about, along the lines of “don’t eat street food, you’ll get hepatitis”. I don’t remember ever being told what hepatitis was, so I just assumed it was a strain of gastro and avoided street food.
