Liver Health Education with the Filipino Community

October 26, 2022

Hepatitis B and fatty liver disease affect the lives of many people within the Filipino community in Australia. So our Multicultural Community Educator Alain teamed up with the Filipino Australian Seniors Association Inc, to deliver a liver health and viral hepatitis session to the Filipino Community in Melbourne’s South East.

The session had a strong focus on getting tested, vaccinated and treated for viral hepatitis, as well as a Q&A section with Dr. Marilou Capati from Top End Medical Centre from Darwin. The session also highlighted the importance of working together as a community in raising awareness about eliminating viral hepatitis.

LiverWELL works with different community groups across Victoria to improve awareness of all aspects of liver health, including viral hepatitis and infection control on how to care for your liver, and prevent and manage liver disease.

Our workshops cover:

  • Awareness of liver health
  • The function of the liver and common liver health conditions
  • Why the liver is important and how to look after it
  • The signs of liver disease
  • How to get tested and treated for a liver condition such as viral hepatitis
  • Stigma and discrimination
  • Lived experience perspective.
