Rotary HEP Hero Debra Yin Foo

November 19, 2020
Scientist | Melbourne Rotary Club

I am part of the Melbourne Rotary Club Team and the “End Hepatitis Now” Project that supports the education and dissemination of information about viral hepatitis to other Rotary Clubs.

I am a scientist with a background in Biochemistry. I have an interest in science and education.

I am currently a Patent Attorney and I obtain Patent protection for researchers and scientists that have innovation in the biotechnology field including large pharmaceutical companies, universities and research institutes.

I hang around with other scientists and enjoy learning new medical breakthroughs. I also like to help others and if there is a way we can do it by educating them more, then I’m in.

About Journey:I have been a Rotary Club member for about 13 years and I was looking for a project that fit my background and something that I could use my skills in. When I hear about the “End Hepatitis Now” project, it seemed to be a good fit.

It’s a curable condition (HepB and C) and by educating others now they may be able to do something before it is too late. The science is there and well established and it works. It’s important to take a proactive approach rather than a reactive approach.

Debra’s message to others:

Get yourself checked now if you are in a high risk group, or get yourself checked anyway.
