Our LiverWELL Volunteer of the Month is Maddie Bolton. We conducted a short interview with Maddie to find out more about her journey and why she decided to volunteer at LiverWELL.
Please share a mini overview of yourself.
I am in my final year studying a double degree in public health and business administration. I have a passion for health and well-being and have always known that I have wanted to pursue a career helping others.
What inspired you to become a LiverWELL volunteer?
I found LiverWELL when I was searching for a university placement as part of my degree. LiverWELL has provided me with the opportunity to put all of my learning over the last 3 years into practice. It has also given me a way to give back to the community in a meaningful way.
Please describe your favourite part of volunteering with LiverWELL.
My favorite part about working at LiverWELL has been how welcoming and friendly all the staff have been to me during my first few weeks here. I also had the opportunity to hear one of lived experience speakers talk about their experience living with Hepatitis. I found that her presentation solidified the importance of the work of all the employees and volunteers do at LiverWELL.
What tips do you have for new volunteers?
Say yes to all opportunities and don’t be afraid to be yourself and provide feedback and advice to the team for projects you are working on. Remember that the service LiverWELL provides has the potential to create significant changes in another person’s life.
We would like to thank Maddie for her contributions to LiverWELL over the past month and wish her luck in her studies.
We acknowledge the traditional owners of the lands where we work - the lands of the Woi-Wurrung Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nations. We express our gratitude to them for their continued care and curation of these lands and waters. We pay our respects to Elders past and present.
LiverWELL observes and honours the Kulin Nation's intrinsic connection to land, sky and water, and the creator Bunjil. LiverWELL is committed to being led and informed by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders on bridging health outcomes for communities and improving liver health.
