As the Mayor of Moreland I feel becoming a HEP Hero is a good thing to do as an elected representative and role model for the city. I am 46, married with three sons and living in Coburg. I love to spend time in the garden.

During my university time, I met with many people who were volunteers at various organisations which also inspired me to become a volunteer and help people.

I am a HEP Hero because I feel it is important to raise awareness of the stigma and discrimination experienced by people who live or have lived with hepatitis. I believe people should not be discriminated against because they are sick.

I am a HEP Hero because: I believe in taking the discrimination out of any interaction between those who have and those who do not have (from blood borne viruses to skin colour)

Just get involved! Hepatitis Victoria a worthy organisation and you will find the staff and volunteers are so warm and passionate.

As the Greater Dandenong Mayor and a hepatitis C sufferer, I’m hoping by sharing my story I can reach out to the wider community to help them understand the seriousness of this disease and the treatment options available.

I trained as an infectious diseases physician because of the enormous ability you have to support individuals and communities to live healthier lives.

Along the way I’ve been lucky enough to work alongside some truly phenomenal health professionals who dedicate themselves to hepatitis care, compassion and the quest for cures.

I was interested in learning more about the organization and the activities developed to advocate for people with hepatitis. I also wanted to learn more about hepatitis and its treatments.
