Reducing Harm this May

May 8, 2023

May 7th is International Harm Reduction Day, dedicated to reducing stigma and supporting the creation of policies, programs and places, such as safe injecting rooms, which improve the health of drug users and help them to live safer lives. Harm reduction is grounded on respecting the rights of people who use drugs, promoting positive change.

Safe injecting rooms can help drug users avoid contracting blood-borne viruses such as hepatitis C, which can lead to cirrhosis and further liver complications. LiverWELL supports evidence-based public health policies which benefit the lives of people who use drugs, their families, and the community.

We acknowledge the traditional owners of the lands where we work - the lands of the Woi-Wurrung Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nations. We express our gratitude to them for their continued care and curation of these lands and waters. We pay our respects to Elders past and present.

LiverWELL observes and honours the Kulin Nation's intrinsic connection to land, sky and water, and the creator Bunjil. LiverWELL is committed to being led and informed by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders on bridging health outcomes for communities and improving liver health.
